Director's statement

Leila d'Angelo

Initially, I entered the world of film as a VFX artist and Editor, and from this starting point I grew  to understand the social mechanics of being on set; this ranged from being a presenter to being a sound technician, which lead me to master the role of director, thus being able to communicate what i wanted to create in a clear and concise manner to all on set.

With “AND WE HAVE KILLED HIM” I wanted to be able to forge an ocular and acoustic feast (without dialogue), which would allow the audience to  feel the emotion being portrayed, rather than being told what the main character is experiencing. To tell a story without dialogue was a challenging feat, especially since the subject matter of the film was all about philosophy of the human condition, however I don’t think the powerful visuals let me down with that in mind, specifically because my actress, Tanya Howard was incredibly expressive and understood the script clearly. In addition my cinematographer Luca d’Angelo was alert and captured every moment as it came, even if it was a practice run through of the script.
